Waldorf: Play silks (silkies) for natural children's play

Do you like my pink silk snail? :o)
Inspired by the beauty of nature, playsilks are great imaginative tools for your child, baby to elementary aged for hours of creative open-ended play. They become capes, scarves, blankets, tents, rivers, meadows, and much more, anything your child can dream up!
Silk is surprisingly durable, and a wonderful play fabric because of it's lightweight 'silky' properties. It billows beautifully when wooshed through the air, and it is easily clamped to chairs or tables with clothes pins. Tied around the waist it is a skirt, to the head, a hat, it is the ultimate dress up ingredient.
By placing simple knots the silk can be transformed by older children, or an adult, into a simple imagination-inspiring animal. An instruction sheet for a few simple ideas is included with purchase.
We like all the different sizes of silkies, detailed below.
The small 12x12 ones are perfect for travel, they fold up to be stuck in a pocket and pulled out for an impromptu game of peek-a-boo in the grocery store checkout line or in the car. They are small and fun for baby hands to wave around. They become a nice knot doll for the young children too.
The medium 22x22 inch silkies are great for peek a boo with a sitting baby, covers baby's head, but they aren't too long for him to pull off easily. The make nice capes and skirts for the young toddlers, short enough that they can be tied so they don't drag on the ground for tripping.
Large 30x30 inch silkies are a bit longer to be used as forts for older toddlers and pre-school to school aged children. They can be created into more elaborate dress up outfits and are useful to older children.
Extra Large 36x36 inch silkies are also useful for the same reasons as the large ones, especially for forts (draped over chairs and tables), as well as table cloths for tables and backgrounds for puppet shows.
Care: Silk is a 'protein fiber', like hair. Care is similar ♥ Hand wash using gentle baby shampoo, hang to dry. Iron when still damp, on the medium iron setting.
