About Waldorf Dolls
I wanted to put up something about these dolls. I have been making dolls since Jr High, I learned while working at a preschool. My first attempts were... interesting... but my momma still kept one up on her bed for a long time. I've used both flannel and velour to make them, and I just recently added hair, I'm really liking that this year. I started out with the Bunting Doll, then moved to a stuffed star shape with hands and feet, and then when Babe was born I wanted to do something a little different and special for *her*. After her birth I was even more in tune with the developmental needs of babies, so I didn't stuff the doll other than enough to make the head stay up (if you only stuff a round head, it is super floppy). Sure enough, this worked great! She was able to grasp it and it worked well to have for a nursing lovey because it wasn't too bulky. She loved the simple face, which surprised me. She was 2 months old and I didn't think she'd care about the face at all, but sure enough her face lit up when I showed it to her, and still continues to whenever I show her either 'her dolly' or a new one that I just finished for my shop.
The stuffing that it does have is wool, which actually retains heat so the doll warms up nicely to the child. Wool also has antimicrobial properties, keeping it more sanitary than polyfil or other synthetics. It smells soooo good, too! I love smelling the wool when I'm making the dolls. The corners of the hands and feet and hat make for nice teething edges, they are soft yet firm at the same time.
It's for all of these reasons that I call this doll a doll for infants, I feel like it's just suited to them really well. I'm sure as babe grows I'll work on bigger dolls that are more suited for toddlers, but for now this is what we like.
From the feedback section of my shop:
"Oh my. This dolly is too sweet! Well made and so soft and huggable. Cara is wonderful to work with , a real gem. Fast shipping, very friendly. Everyone needs a baby doll like this!"
"DARLING! My son adores it! So soft, sweet, and perfect for a baby!"
"this is the sweetest little infant doll, my children love him~thank you"
"ADORABLE! I'm not sure who is more delighted - the baby or my 5 year old! Well made, obviously handcrafted with great care and love, carefully packaged "
"The doll is so cute! MJ has named her MeowMeow (she's into our cats) already and held onto her until bedtime!"

Waldorf dolls have such amazing energy and spirit about them that they really have to be experienced in person to be appreciated. It's incredible how something so simple can be so captivating and provide hours of satisfying play and loving for little ones.
Your new velour looks scrumptious, btw... perfect for crafting new best friends and lovies.
Thanks! :) The velour is so fun to work with! I just started doing a couple new dolls this morning, it was hard to choose which color to start with! :)
I just wanted to share 2 more stories with you. I'm the one with the newly named MeowMeow.
1--She only has one other doll (she has other stuffed things, but she doesn't have much interest in them). Her other doll's name is Meg. She keeps calling the new one Meg as well, until I ask "What's her name?" then she remembers. I just find this kind of funny...and it points out she needs more dolls since she seems to think "meg" is a type of toy rather than a given name. LOL
2--We've done just a little bit of potty training. MJ decided MeowMeow needed to go potty. She came back out of the bathroom without the doll. I asked where she was? MJ had put her INSIDE the little potty chair and closed the lid. LOL After she went to bed, I looked for the doll to put it up (our cat attacked another one and ripped it up so I want to be careful when no one's around). Sure enough--she was back inside the potty chair. LOL Thank goodness it's never actually been used for the intended purpose.
Your dolls are wonderful! JuneBug is so in LOVE with his (and has been since he was sitting in my lap and saw it on the computer screen). It is a much loved, cuddled, kissed/gnawed on friend to him ... and he has lately started even keeping it in his hands when nursing :-) I even caught him sort of babbling/talking to it the other day. Boo loves it, too and has named it after a little baby we know we shares similar features (and sweet disposition). You can tell, sweet Cara, that you obviously put a lot of love into hand crafting these and I've had no trouble recommending you to friends and family! XOXO! - Best Wishes!
You are too sweet! I love hearing about these 'baby's' new homes :)
I never knew a doll could "hold" so much! You and Christine Schreier of Puppenstube are showing me how special - Waldorf dolls in particular - can be!
